A little bit of everything
It all begins with the tree blooming. Once the blooms drop off the fruit begins to form. The Mayhaw is a Hawthorn whose fruit ripens in late April to early May, hence the name. I am having to check my trees daily once the fruit begins to turn pink, because I am competing with the birds and the squirrels for the bounty.
Once a year my granddaughters and I go on a big adventure (at least that is what they call it). We head to Corpus Christi to visit my father in the summer. Not to go to the beach or do the touristy things you might think. No, we go to Corpus to take over my father’s kitchen for a day to make jelly.
